Low Country Painting, LLC - Commercial Project
Summerville Designer Show House
Summerville, SC
2008 Project

This historic property built around 1877, located at 127 West Fifth South St., is also known locally as "The Teacher age".

Mr. James H.Spann, a Summerville educator, purchased the home in 1944 to serve as a boarding house for young, single, out of town teachers. For over nine years the home was used for that purpose.

In 2007, the Town of Summerville purchased the home from Mr. and Mrs. James W. Berry. The Town of Summerville realized the home's close location to Azalea Park and its unique architectural features would make an ideal venue for receptions, meetings, and various public events.

Low Country Painting (LCP) was selected by the Town of Summerville to make cosmetic interior repairs as well as a total interior repaint. LCP teamed with Town and Designer Showhouse representatives on the interior up fit. The Showhouse Design team featured 10 rooms which were completely furnished with a focus on highlighting the architectural features and character of the home. The exterior entrance and back porch was also repainted as part of the Showhouse event.

Lord & Evans Paints (www.LordandEvans.com) donated all the painting materials used on this project. Color Wheel Paints (www.colorwheel.com) Low Odor/Low VOC products, Solace and Aquatec, were utilized on the interior. The exterior utilized Color Wheel's Optima and Ironize products.

The Designer Showhouse team held an open house on November 1st, 2008 to the public to raise funds for the Children in Crisis organization. This organization operates the Dorchester Children's Center which provides services to abused and neglected children.

Some of the interesting features of this home include:
- 13 foot ceilings,
- An octagonal skylight in a domed ceiling that facilitated cross flow ventilation,
- Ornate molding and fire place mantels.
- A totally new kitchen.

Low Country Painting considered it an honor and privilege to be given the opportunity to work on this project!
