Fire House
Isle of Palms, South Carolina
Summer 2007
This project focused on the construction of a new fire station facility on
the east end of the island near the Marina. This three story facility
includes sleeping quarters, living space, class rooms, offices, equipment
rooms, and operational support capabilities. The overall design compliments
the residential beach homes in the immediate area.
Trident Construction was the general contractor. The architects were Cole +
Russell out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Low Country Painting focused on interior and exterior painting. Since the
ocean is only a couple of blocks away, the first floor interior walls are
reinforced CMU block. Epoxy block filler and epoxy topcoat was applied to
these substrates. Two part urethane was used on the four fold doors, roll up
doors, doors/frames, and entrance staircase. The exposed ceilings received a
direct to rust (DTR) epoxy topcoat. The apparatus bay ceilings were coated
with traditional semi-gloss latex after fiber insulation was applied to the
ceiling structures. More traditional products were used on the second &
third floor areas.
The exterior is a combination of cementitious siding/trim and stucco. Flat
and satin 100% acrylic topcoats were used on these areas. The color scheme
compliments the residential area and embraces an island theme.
